Our Terms

We like to make our terms and conditions as clear as possible from the very beginning, so here they are.

Our Prices
We reserve the right to change the price charged for all of our services without notice. We will always honour the price quoted at the time a course booking was made, so long as that course booking was secured with cash or a cheque, and written confirmation has been received by you, from us.   Whilst we endeavour to ensure that all advertising through third parties is as accurate as possible, we will only honour the prices shown on our website, or offered by our staff, at the time of your enquiry. We recommend that you visit our site regularly to keep up to date with our most current pricing.

Deposits
A £100 deposit must be paid in advance of attending any course.

The balance of any payment due must be made before the first day of any course in cash.  Cheques will only be accepted if received & cleared by the day of training or if supported by a cheque guarantee card.

Cancellation Policy
Students must arrive on time to start their course.Any exceptionally late students may need to rebook the course, and this may incur a re-booking fee.

If a student cancels a course, giving at least 14 days notice, a full refund will be made, less a £25 Admin Fee.

If a student cancels a course with less than 5 days notice of the course start date, the deposit will be held.  Any outstanding funds already paid will be refunded.

If a student fails to arrive on the day of training without notice the full amount will be charged.

If Excess Energy cancels any course due to illness or inclement weather, the student will be offered an alternative date or a complete refund (See below for cancellations due to inclement weather)

Excess Energy cannot be held liable for any Driving Standards Agency (DSA) test cancellations or failures.

If Excess Energy cancels any course because the student is considered to be a hazard to themselves or other road users, any refunds, if any, will be at the discretion of Excess Energy.

Student Documentation
It is the students responsibility to ensure all necessary and relevant documentation is valid and remains in their possession throughout the training.  This means:

To undertake a CBT course: A valid UK Provisional Category A or Category P Licence (Both parts if a photographic licence).  If a student has an older style paper licence it must be supported with photographic proof of identity. e.g. a passport.

To undertake a Full Motorbike A1/A2 licence training/practical test: A valid UK provisional licence category A (both parts if a photographic type licence), CBT certificate & Theory test certificate.  If a student has an older style paper licence it must be supported with photographic proof of identity. e.g. a passport.

To undertake Advanced Training or Back to Biking courses: A valid full UK licence (both parts if a photographic licence).  if a student has an older style paper licence it must be supported with photographic proof of identity. e.g. a passport.

If the student does not provide the necessary Student documentation or meet the eyesight check requirements (The ability to read a vehicle registration plate at 20.5 metres or 67 ft), with or without optical aids, then the deposit will be forfeit & training will not commence.

Motorcycle Documentation
In the event that a students own machine is used:  Valid insurance certificate, MOT and tax disc correctly displayed along with 'L' plates if required.

A students own motorcycle must meet current road traffic and construction and use specifications.

If the student does not provide the necessary Motorcycle documentation, then the deposit will be forfeit & training will not commence.

Student Clothing
Students must wear suitable clothing when undertaking motorcycle training:

  • Sturdy footwear but not steel toe capped shoes or boots.
  • A jacket
  • An approved safety helmet
  • Gloves
  • Waterproofs (if necessary) will be supplied by Excess Energy.

If a customer arrives for training without wearing appropriate clothing, Excess Energy reserves the right to cancel training and retain the deposit.

Pre-Reading
It is mandatory that the student reads and understands The Highway Code prior to attending motorcycle training.

Damage to or Loss of Equipment and Insurance
Excess Energy do not provide insurance to cover illness/personal injury or unplanned course cancellation.      

Excess Energy reserve the right to invoice students for the first £250 for any loss or damage to machines or equipment caused during training sessions.  A signed declaration and credit/debit card details will be required before the course starts to cover any damage caused during the course.

Alcohol and Drugs
If the Excess Energy instructor feels that the customer is under the influence of alcohol or drugs (whether prescribed or not) they reserve the right to cancel training with no refund of payment.

Training Standards
All training is provided at the discretion of Excess Energy.  Excess Energy reserves the right to decline training.

Excess Energy will, where possible, create groups of students with similar or equal skills but this cannot be guaranteed.

Excess Energy will, where possible, keep the student on the same Motorcycle throughout their training, but this cannot be guaranteed.

Excess Energy reserves the right to halt or offer alternative training if a customer is deemed to be a hazard to themselves or other road users.  Any refund of fees is at the discretion of Excess Energy.

Excess Energy will not tolerate threatening or abusive behaviour in our working environment.  Excess Energy therefore reserves the right to terminate the course without refund if we are subjected to this type of behaviour.
